Practise with help

Attempt each question first. Open the hint, then the next step, when needed.

1. A circular clock face has radius 15 cm. Work out its circumference in terms of π.

Hint

Circumference uses the radius in C=2πrC=2\pi r.

Next step

Substitute r=15r=15 cm and simplify 2π×152\pi\times15.

Full working

C=2π×15=30π cmC=2\pi\times15=30\pi\text{ cm}.

2. A circular pond cover has diameter 18 cm. Work out its area in terms of π.

Hint

Area needs the radius, not the diameter.

Next step

Halve the diameter first: 18÷2=918\div2=9 cm. Then use A=πr2A=\pi r^2.

Full working

A=π×92=81π cm2A=\pi\times9^2=81\pi\text{ cm}^2.

3. A circle has circumference 20π cm. Work out its radius.

Hint

Work backwards from C=2πrC=2\pi r.

Next step

Divide the circumference by 2π2\pi: 20π÷2π20\pi\div2\pi.

Full working

r=20π÷2π=10 cmr=20\pi\div2\pi=10\text{ cm}.

Try the remaining questions without opening the full working.
