The chapter problem, solved

A discount of 14\frac{1}{4} is 25%25\%. Find one quarter of £48.

48÷4=£1248\div4=£12.

Subtract the discount from the original price.

£48−£12=£36£48-£12=£36.

The first shop charges £36. The second shop charges £37.50. The first shop is cheaper by 37.50−36=£1.5037.50-36=£1.50.
