11.1 Coordinates and plotting graphs — Practise

Work independently in order. The later questions mix this section with earlier methods. Questions marked H are Higher only.

  1. Plot the point (3,−2)(3,-2) on a coordinate grid. State its horizontal and vertical coordinates.
  2. State the quadrant containing (−4,5)(-4,5).
  3. Complete the table for y=2x+1y=2x+1 when x=−1,0,2x=-1,0,2.
  4. For y=x+2y=x+2, find yy when x=−2,1,3x=-2,1,3.
  5. Give three points on the line y=3xy=3x for x=−1,0,2x=-1,0,2.
  6. The graph y=x−4y=x-4 crosses the horizontal axis at which point?
  7. For y=5−xy=5-x, complete the values when x=0,2,5x=0,2,5.
  8. A point (a,b)(a,b) is reflected in the xx-axis. State the image coordinates.
  9. Does (2,7)(2,7) lie on y=3x+1y=3x+1? Show a substitution check.
  10. H Find the midpoint of (2,5)(2,5) and (8,−1)(8,-1).
