A-level Physics
Welcome. This is a complete, interactive A-level Physics book for England, covering the core physics common to the three awarding bodies. Everything here is free to read online, and there is nothing to install.
How to use this book
Each section has three pages:
| Page | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Learn | The teaching: ideas, worked examples, and something to try |
| Practise with help | Questions with hints you reveal only if you need them |
| Practise | Independent questions, with answers at the end |
Each chapter opens with a problem you will be able to solve by the end, and ends with a Review that mixes the chapter's ideas together.
The data and formulae booklet
A Formulae button sits at the bottom right of every page. It opens a searchable booklet of the equations and data you are given in the exam. Choose your exam board, and it shows only what that board provides.
Checked questions
The questions and the answers in every Practise set are printed from the same source, so they cannot disagree. A computer checks the arithmetic and the units of each calculation when the book is built. It cannot check the physics, so read the reasoning in Learn as well.
Practical work
All three boards assess twelve set practical activities. Your teacher records these in the Practical Endorsement, which is separate from the written exams and carries no marks in them.
Practical skills are still examined. At least 15% of the written marks assess practical knowledge and skills, so measurements, uncertainties, graphs and the choice of apparatus are part of the assessment.
The exam boards
This book follows the content common to the three awarding bodies:
- AQA 7407 and 7408
- Pearson Edexcel 9PH0
- OCR H556 (Physics A)
The content areas are the same. The papers and their weightings differ, so the book stays board-neutral.
