Junior Cycle Mathematics

Chapter 22: Statistics

Collecting data, representing it, and drawing conclusions that the data can actually support.

The chapter problem

Is the school getting enough sleep?. You will design a survey, collect the data, and present what you find. By the end of the chapter you can say what your data supports, and — just as importantly — what it does not.

Where it is used: Surveys, reports, news claims, and any number someone wants you to believe.

Your turn to connect it: Where have you seen a graph used to persuade someone, and did it tell the whole story?
